Discussion regarding [Samuel Heinrich] Schwabe’s ‘30 year observations of the surface of the sun and his discovery of periodicity in the frequency of the solar spots’ and the possibility of his awarding of the medal. Refers to Dr [Johann von] Lamont, terrestrial magnetic intensity, the daily range of the declination, astronomical deductions, Sabine’s ‘treasury of magnetic data’, the mean diurnal range of the declination, horizontal intensity, and absolute intensity.
