DescriptionChallis thanks Sabine for sending the results of his observations of the magnetic dip at Cambridge. Refers to an aurora on 17 November 1848, describes comparing the magnetic dip at Cambridge Observatory with positions of the corona, and the method he used to obtain its value, using observations of the variation and dip at Greenwich, Makerstoun and Dublin 1843. Compares the dip at Greenwich and Cambridge during the aurora in 1848. Challis offers to show Sabine their method of observing solar spots.
