DescriptionChambers thanks Sabine for his recommendation and help in securing the superintendency of the [Mumbai] Bombay Observatory, as well as influencing Colonel Walker to nominate him as a candidate for the Bengal Observatory. Discussion on the separation of seven years of declination disturbances. Chambers informs Sabine his appointment in India will end next month, and he is unsure if he will be able to implement the plans he intends to carry out. Reference to page 283 of Sabine’s paper in the philosophical transactions of 1863, disturbances at a station. Chambers was pleased to receive a visit from Colonel Smythe before his departure from India. While Dr Livingstone was in [Mumbai] Bombay he asked Chambers to take charge of the dip circle and theodolite he had with him in his last African expedition.
