Date | 19 March 1867 |
Description | Chambers refers to obstructions thrown in the way of the prosperity of the [Colaba Observatory] and is unsure if he will be successful in his endeavours, but is grateful that his proposed course of action meets the approval ‘of those best able to judge’. Chambers is sending Sabine three official letters which most likely will not be published, however, update on the progress of the situation regarding observations in India. Suggests that Sir Stafford [Henry] Northcote should not follow Sir Cranborne’s example of only seeking the advice of the Astronomer Royal. Remarks that Mr Bartle Frere has been supportive and will present their case to the Indian Council. Discussion on the Resolution of the Government. Chambers has not yet had time to read Mr [Edward] Walker’s Adam Prize essay. Instruments from Kew have arrived in [Mumbai] Bombay. |
