DescriptionDonkin accepts Sabine’s offer to read the proof sheets of the St Helena volume [of observations] and asks Sabine to send them. Regretfully declines Sabine’s invitation to visit him due to health reasons, though highly values his opinion. Discussion on Donkin’s course of lectures regarding an account of [Johann Carl Friedrich] Gauss’s theory and the mathematical principles of the chief method of observation. Donkin has delivered five lectures, intends to deliver two or three more, and a general nature of the conclusions and refer to the nature of the action of the sun and the moon. Donkin asks Sabine to direct him to any passage of his work in particular that may be useful, without cause him trouble.
