DescriptionSabine informed Grant that the Glasgow Observatory had been recommended to the government by the Royal Society as a station where it would be ‘desirable to establish a system of meteorological observations to be prosecuted by means of self registering instruments at the public expense’. Grant thanks Sabine for this recommendation. Reference to the increased interest in meteorological science, connection between the University of Glasgow and maritime interests of Scotland. Grant notes that the [Glasgow] Observatory will be able to perform its functions with a greater advantage if this recommendation is accepted by the government, and assures Sabine that no ‘effort’ shall be spared on their part.
