DescriptionEllery updates Sabine regarding work at the Melbourne Observatory. The anemometer has been at the observatory for two months and after initial adjustments is recording ‘satisfactorily’. Ellery asks Sabine the best lubricant for the friction balls, and determining the actual velocity.

A ‘fine comet’ appeared in Melbourne in January, February and March, referring to the comet of 1843.
