DescriptionRefers to Sabine’s reply to Mr Cardwell regarding magnetic observations. Discusses the objectives of the observatory at Mauritius, ‘ to provide photographic apparatus for self-registration’, similar to Kew. Meldrum discusses their ‘main’ objective to persuade the Legislative Council to ‘admit the importance of an observatory and to vote the necessary funds’ as well as necessary expenses approved by the Home Government. Discussion regarding delays to the various approvals to build an observatory sue to the construction of the railway. Meldrum argues the benefits of Mr Cardwell’s vote to Council and remarks ‘nothing can be done here till the arrival of’ his reply. Discussion regarding instruments.
