Klein discusses the awful conditions of the Cape of Good Hope for magnetic observations, including a quote form Professor [Christophorus Henricus Diedericus] Buys Ballot regarding the local derivation on board vessels. Klein discusses his opinion on the derivation on board the ‘same vessel’. Refers to magnetic observations obtained near the Cape of Good Hope. Refers to ‘observations made under favourable circumstances’. Klein discusses his remarks regarding variation charts.
