TitleLetter from Charles Pasley, H M Dockyard, Chatham to Edward Sabine
Date2 October 1867
DescriptionPasley refers to being ‘summoned’ by the Board of Admiralty regarding their ‘annual inspection’ on dockyards. Pasley then intends to return to Portsmouth to ‘see the Nelson off’ referring to uncertain nature of the Nelson’s departure. Mr [Thomas] Grubb informed Pasley of the possibility to see the [equatorial] telescope before it is ‘taken to pieces for shipment’ to [Melbourne]. Discusses the impossibility of sending the telescope on the Nelson as suggested by Sabine, but assures there are other ‘many first class ships’ and will not cause ‘difficulty in sending the telescope’.
