TitleLetter from John Prestwich, 21 Park Crescent to Edward Sabine
Date6 March 1873
DescriptionDiscussion regarding deep sea temperatures. Prestwich remarks on tabulating all observations he could find on the subject 20 years ago but had to abandon his efforts due to ‘pressure of other engagements’. Refers to expeditions of ‘HMS Lighting’ ‘HMS Porcupine’ and ‘HMS Challenger’ [referring to deep-water dredging surveys and discoveries of oceanography]. Prestwich intends to update his ‘list’ with ‘more recent researches’. Refers to a number of observations made at sea, including temperature.
