| Description | Roget was unable to see Sabine after the meeting of The Royal Society. Refers to letter written by Mr [Charles] Babbage ‘declining the invitation to attend the meeting’ and his book. Roget believed Captain [Henry] Kater intends to put forward a proposal for the ejection of Babbage from the [Royal] Society. Roget informs Sabine the ‘visitation at Greenwich passed off very quietly’ as ‘neither Babbage nor his fellow agitators’ were present. [Davies] Gilbert read Sabine’s letters regarding his resignation. Roget asks Sabine if it was his intention for Gilbert to publicly announce Sabine’s intentions to ‘relinquish’ half of his salary ‘for the benefit of the Society’. |
