Title | Letter from David Livingstone, Tette to Edward Sabine |
Date | 6 February 1860 |
Description | Livingstone informs Sabine despite interest from The Royal Society and the government [in their endeavour] Mr Laird ‘furnished’ them ‘with a most wretched vessel’ and as a consequence the magnetic instruments have suffered. Remarks on the construction of the vessel and describes the issues and difficulties they face as a result. Refers to the moisture and magnetism of scales which Livingstone concludes may have ‘damaged the magnetism of the instruments’. Livingstone informs Sabine his brother [Charles Livingstone] will do ‘the best that he can in the circumstances’ but they hope to procure ‘a new vessel with room for instruments and collections’. |
