DescriptionRefers to Mr [Charles] Chambers appointment as Superintendent of the Bombay Observatory, and his application for the replacement of outdated instruments. This occurred at the same time as Lord Cranbourne referred to ‘the general subject of astronomical observatories in India to the Astronomer Royal. Consequently, Chambers application was shelved. Remarks on a renewal of Chambers application and includes an extract of a passage from the Astronomer Royal’s official reply to this.
