TitleCopy of a letter from Edward Sabine, Burlington House to Dr David Walker
Date21 April 1841
DescriptionSabine is pleased to learn the US government has employed Walker to conduct their new exploring expedition to the North Pole. Sabine comments he is the ‘oldest living person experienced in such undertakings’ that Walker is about to embark on. Sabine suggests routes he would prefer to take and routes he would not. Refers to the force and absolute determination. Remarks that Captain Hall will command the expedition and was a friend of [Francis Rawdon Moira] Crozier’s. Sabine is ‘anxious’ to learn whether Hall intends to write further on his belief that Crozier survived the ‘catastrophe in 1847 and was alive some years afterwards with an Esquimaux wife and family’.
