TitleLetter from Robert Hermann Schomburgk, 19 Golden Square to Edward Sabine
Date5 January 1846
DescriptionSchomburgk refers to his ill health which prevented him from writing to Sabine. Schomburgk intends to send Sabine his magnetical observations from Barbados and St Thomas, and informs Sabine he has been unable to use Hansteen and Barrow’s dipping needles due to the weather conditions. Schomburgk is currently writing a history of Barbados and would like to include ‘magnetical elements’ in addition to his meteorological observations. Therefore, requests Sabine to provide information on ‘the terrestrial magnetism in Barbados’ based on Schomburgk’s observations.
