TitleLetter Charles Smallwood, Isle Jesus, Canada to Edward Sabine, London
Date31 March 1859
DescriptionSmallwood refers to making meteorological observations for nearly 20 years and his obligations to [John Henry] Lefroy at Toronto. Smallwood applied to the provincial legislature for ‘aid’ in carrying out observations, which the Committee ‘made a very favourable report and recommended a grant for the purpose of increasing the observations’. However due to the ‘deplorable condition’ of finances, ‘science is put quite in the background’. Therefore, Smallwood would like to enquire if any scientific societies loan any magnetic instruments and prices in London.
