Smallwood wrote to a member of the Canadian government regarding a grant, but due to the ‘instability’ of things he has been unable to receive a ‘positive promise’. Refers to last year’s grant being ‘nearly exhausted’, payment of the chronometer and the arrival of the instruments soon. Discusses the building of the observatory in [Canada].
