DescriptionSabine remarks on a passage he read in the Athenaeum. Refers to Captain Forster’s observations and experiments regarding the ‘determination of the figure of the earth’. Sabine claims ‘to have made the most complete series’, and ‘the next most extensive series’ by Captain Forster ‘reduced by Mr [Francis] Baily’. Discusses pendulum experiments and improvements in its manipulation. Sabine thanks Peacock for mentioning himself and Riddell.
