DescriptionRefers to Sabine’s account in the Literary Gazette regarding the [Mumbai] Bombay meteorological observations. Discussion regarding the vapour pressure. Comparisons with the Madras [Chennai] observations. Taylor asks Sabine if there have been any amendments to table five in the report of the committee of The Royal Society. Reference to tidal and meteorological observations made under Taylor’s direction in Penang [colonial Prince of Wales Island]. Discusses what should be done with the numerous observations from tidal station at Kochi [also known as Cochin] and Penang, and the meteorological observations from Madras [Chennai], ‘Singapore’ and Simla. If the Madras Magnetic Observatory is ‘given up’ Taylor intends to apply for the instruments in order to make occasional observations. Discussion regarding the tidal stations established by the East India Company in Madras [Chennai], Mumbai [Bombay] and Bengal. Discusses the meteorological observations in India, describing them as ‘most desirable’.
