Description | Tennant has deposited a detailed account and results of the eclipse [referring to the solar eclipse of 17 August 1868 across the Indian peninsula] to the Home Office which will be transmitted to the Royal Astronomical Society. Tennant obtained six photographs of the prominences during the observation. The first photograph was taken during the last rays of sunlight were vanishing and the last photograph was taken approximately eight seconds before the end of the phenomenon. Tennant discusses his agreement with [Gustav Robert] Kirchhoff’s hypothesis. Discussion regarding the prominences, spectroscope examination, gas emissions and the strata. Includes seven paper prints showing the phases of the eclipse, and the enlarges ‘great horn’. Includes the times of commencement of exposure and their durations for each image. |
