Commencing: 'Whereas His late Majesty King Charles the second, by his letters Patent...' and continuing 'Now I the Right Honourable Sir Joseph Banks, Bart., K.B., at this time President of the Royal Society, by virtue of the Powers and Authorities aforesaid, do by these presents nominate and appoint Samual Goodenough, Lord Bishop of Carlisle, being one of the present Council of the said Royal Society, my Deputy in the said Office of President...'

Signed 'Jos: Banks'. Sealed and delivered in the presence of George Gilpin. With an embossed stamp for one pound.
