The period in which these books were created coincided with the appointment of Emanuel Mendes Da Costa as the new Clerk, Librarian, Housekeeper and Keeper of the Repository on 17 February 1763. A Committee was also appointed at this time 'to inspect the state and Condition of the Library and Repository'. By 1767, Da Costa had been dismissed from his post.
