TitleLetter from Kennedy P Orton, University College of North Wales, to [James C] Philip, Assistant Secretary of the Chemistry Sub-Committee
Date4 December 1915
DescriptionHas delayed in answering [Philip's] letter until sure of the amount of paraldehyde he could make -- has only three third-year students left to assist him, and one laboratory staff -- gives the names of the students and staff, and notes that none of them have as yet been given war badges. Could produce 5lbs of paraldehyde if all of these can be employed on the work. Gives some notes on the method of preparation. Asks if the equilibrium-mixture of the paraldehyde is sufficient, and if the catalyst needs to be removed -- notes that the catalyst is rapidly destroyed and asks if some impurity in the alcohol is responsible.
