DateJanuary 1884
DescriptionMeteorological observations extracted from the register kept at Scutari Cemetery, now Üsküdar, Istanbul, Turkey.

"The abnormal iridescence of the Western sky at Sunset, still continues. The most remarkable colours, rising from a base of orange purple, - being orange, lemon, green, and puce or violet, - of great richness and beauty; changing later on to crimson, pale at the crown of the arc, bright at the middle, and of a rather smoky hue at the base, gradually becoming fainter, and finally disappearing about an hour and a quarter after sunset.."

William Henry Lyne (1834-1914) was Custodian of Scutari Cemetery for fifty-four years.
