TitleLetter from Mary [Coloryan] Michell, Coloryan House [Kolkata, India] to Mrs Hodge
Daten.d. [8 December 1883?]
DescriptionRecounts what Lewis [Michell] wrote on 20 October about the 'beautiful zodiacal light' apppearing sometime between 13 and 20 October. Rodon [Michell] has also written: Lewis's light was of brilliant colours while Rodon saw a greenish light. It is thought to be caused by dust particles following the Java disaster [Karakatoa]. Lewis noted that the Natal sea beach was strewn with pumice and ash and Rodon said the same happened at Karachi. Mary describes her own observations which reminde her of Eden. Miss Emily Tyache, just deceased, must be in such a scene. She was in great pain to the last but tried to hide it from her sisters.
