DescriptionResponding to an advertisement in Daily News. Offers his experience during his journey through the Sunda Straits, 2 days following the eruption. At the time he did not take notice due to ignorance of what was happening but did observe the land appearing a dull gray colour. In December 1883 he noted weather conditions such as clear skies and atmosphere, smooth sea, and moderate trade winds, and coming across pumice stone every day up to their arrival at Changos, which he retained a sample of. Observed yellow dust floating on the sea but no changes in the sunsets or atmosphere.
