TitleNotes on the [American] proposal to reduce cereal consumption in the UK
Date16 March 1918
DescriptionPrepared by D Noel Paton for a conference with American representatives Lusk and Chittenden. Points out that England is 'the most profitable workshop for the Allies' due to its proximity to the war, its huge machinery plant and inducstrial population -- that the supply of food must therefore be maintained. Gives figures showing the reduction of 20% in the total energy of the food supply -- suggests that further reduction 'seems suicidal in the interests of the Allies'. Points out that the importance of maintaining a reserve of unrationed breadstuffs has been argued in many Committee memos.
