TitleReport on Banana Meal
Date20 January 1917
DescriptionFrom the Secretary of the Jamaica Agricultural Society, [signed by P C Cork]. Gives the results of banana meal investigation at the Imperial Institute: that the nutritive value is low compared to wheat, flour and maize -- that fresh export is the best use of banana, though consumption might be stimulated in the current war climate by alternate storage -- that the cost of [commercial] manufacture of banana meal would be heavy, but that families might make meal in times of plentiful bananas to prevent waste. Notes that trade in banana chips 'might be susceptible of some expansion.'
