TitleLetter from William B Hardy to the Rt Hon Arthur James Balfour
Date18 April 1918
DescriptionThanks Balfour for his letter -- agrees that 'those who concern themselves with Government are unlikely to know the value of work in the van of knowledge' -- suggests that as a way around this, the officers of the Royal Society should be consulted officially -- that the 'best remedy would be the abolition of the title...in Germany the attitude of the State is radically different' as there is always money for science. Describes the experience of Graham Lusk, who worked as a researcher in Germany some years ago, and had all his fees defrayed by the State.
