TitleLetter from Cyril Longhurst, National Antarctic Expedition, 1 Savile Row, to A B [Alfred Bray] Kempe
CreatorLonghurst; Cyril (1879-1948); National Antarctic Expedition secretary
Date30 October 1900
DescriptionEncloses a copy of a letter from the Treasury concerning the government grant for the National Antarctic Expedition, a copy of Longhurst's reply to it, and some figures concerning the cost of the ship for Kempe. The 'slight excess' noted by the Treasury is due to the cost of increasing the beam of the ship which came to £350. Longhurst cannot understand why the Treasury pointed out unless they are afraid of being asked for more money. Collecting funds for the expedition is ongoing, with the aim to get up to £120,000 to fund the expedition for 3 years. To date they have received over £90,700. [For enclosures see MS/547/4/31b-d]
