Description | Written from 10 Porchester Square, Hyde Park, S.W. He expects the wire waiting for Kempe in the hall is from himself. Is sorry to have missed him for it is so much easier to explain than to write. He has come about the Shackleton business. Longhurst saw Shackleton that morning and told him exactly what the Committee thought about his case. He was very reasonable and in consequence he got Shackleton to write the enclosed letter - he took it to Mr Chalmers who went with him and explained everything to Mr Cocks, showing him Mr Shackleton's letter. Mr Chalmers and Mr Cocks are both very glad to have the matter settled so easily and satisfactorily and so the latter has readily signed a cheque which is also enclosed - the cheque requires Kempe's signature and then may be sent with the enclosed covering letter which he hopes Kempe will approve of.
Mr Chalmers asked him to write a letter saying the Committee regard the action they have taken in the matter as perfectly final hence his last paragraph in the letter - it is perhaps rather curt but he thinks he has explained it away in a sort of friendly letter he has written besides - which he also encloses and asks Kempe to kindly read it and send it on. Will Kempe also please send these letters on to Mr S in the addressed envelope.
The cheque for £18-14-4 is his salary for July which is due to him in the ordinary course, will Kempe also please sign that and send it on with the other letter. Apologises for worrying Kempe and hoping Kempe will confirm this letter |
