TitleLetter from Cyril Longhurst to Mr Cocks
Date18 August 1901
DescriptionWritten from Napleton Villa, Kempsey, Worcester
Has come down to Worcester for a short holiday but shoals of letters follow him every day and he will run up to the office for a day or so on Friday next. A resolution was passed at the last meeting of the Finance Committee empowering the Treasurers to sign cheques for money required for the despatch of Bernacchi and Else to Melbourne. Bernacchi has got to go to Potsdam (as Shackleton did) and wants some money to get there with. He has told him he would write and ask Cocks for a cheque - say £20 on account. Will Cocks sign a cheque if he has one prepared. The journey etc cost Shackleton about £15. Else is sailing on September 1st and takes 100 tons of goods with him - he will want a cheque for freight of about £150, but he must get fuller particulars about this before he worries Cocks.

It is very inconvenient that these two require so much attention when everyone is away. Does Cocks have any money in the bank yet - if so there are several cheques he should like to send out on Friday next. Has had a wire from Scott from Funchal - saying they had arrived safely and were all well (15 August).
