Description | Written from 35 Lonsdale Road, Barnes, S.W. Has been away yachting and finds awaiting him Kempe's letter covering one from Bernacchi. He is just off again and cannot say anything about the Antarctics except that Longhurst is away (with his books locked up so that they cannot be got at by Usher). But Cocks was at his bank in the middle of last week. He quite agrees that money must be found for this person's visit to Potsdam (say second class and 15 shillings a night) He might be told this and perhaps won't want an imprest (which might be £10 or so). In any case he should, as Kempe suggests, send in a detailed account under dates. He also agrees that Bernacchi must be the judge of what he really ought to do in the matter of travelling to Melbourne; but he ought to show good cause why he should not go by the cheap ship on the 13th proximo. As, however, they cannot meet he should like to place his proxy in Kempe's hands in favour of whatever Kempe decides . He fancies Kempe and Cocks will have to issue money without a formal minute, but this wwill be regularized when they meet. |
