TitleLetter from Sir Clements Markham to A B [Alfred Bray] Kempe
Date8 October 1901
DescriptionWritten from the National Antarctic Expedition, University Building, Burlington Gardens, W.
Mr Chalmers will come this afternoon making a quorum with him. They will go through the cheques and approve their being drawn, and settle the other business. He shall be very much obliged if Kempe can make it convenient to come there tomorrow forenooon, any time between 11 and 2; also to go through the cheques and sign them, and approve other business. It is really important to get the cheques signed. Mr Cocks is away. He signed a number of cheques on September 24 which were sent out, and all the receipts have now been received. Kempe is to sign them afterwards. The same thing can be done now, Kempe signing when they go out, and Mr Cocks when they come back.

He hurried back from his leave when he heard that Longhurst had got Scarlet Fever, and soon after his return on September 22, Hodge, the type writer, got epileptic fits. He has sin e been working single handed with only one office boy, bills pouring in and much business owing to Scott's change of route.
Postscript; Longhurst will not be back for a fortnight. He propses to dismiss Hodge; no longer wanted
