TitleLetter from William Huggins to the Treasurer, A B [Alfred Bray] Kempe
Date24 July 1901
DescriptionWriten from 90 Upper Tulse Hill, S.W.
States the missing letter contains a long one on two double folio sheets by Wharton to be placed in the Archives of the Joint committee. It was in a strong envelope, 9 inches by 4 inches, and posted there on Monday night at 10 pm, addressed to Porchester Square, if it has not turned up inquiry must be made at once at the Post Office.

States the Shackleton matter is very unfortunate. He fears, from what Murray said, that Lockyer will take it up in the press. He understands that Scott has already sent him a letter of dismissal. He does not know whether Scott has power to do this. Could Shackleton bring an action for damages, and if so against whom? It might have been better for the Antarctic to let Shackleton go on, even if he resigned at Melbourne, as he then would be in the wrong. On the other hand, it is better for the Men, if he is unfit, or cannot get on with them, that he should go now.

Postscript; Please let him know his share of the expenses of the dinner
