Item 7. Sir Clements Markham reported the donation of £25,000 from Mr Llewelly W Longstaff towards the expenses of the Expedition, and also that Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duke of York had consented to act as Patrons of the Expedition.
Item 8. Sir Clements Markham laid before the committee a draft of a letter to the Lords of the Admiralty
Item 9. After some discussion notes were made of a rough estimate of the probable expenditure, total amounting to £80,000
Item 10. Resolved - That the President of the Royal Society and the President of the Royal Geographical Society be requested to ask Mr A J Balfour for a private interview to discuss the subject with them, and that, if the interview be granted, Sir John Murray and Professor Rucker be requested to accompany the Presidents on that occasion. Further action on the draft letter was postponed.
Item 11. Resolved - That a letter be addressed to Baron von Richthofen informing him officially of the prospects of the English Expedition, and requesting information concerning the German Expedition, and suggesting the desirability of a Conference with a view to arranging an adequate co-operation of the two Expeditions |
