Description | Scott acknowledges that his previous Report of Proceedings was not comprehensible by the Reuters Agency, and states that his aim in the reports is not to summarize the results of scientific observation and investigation, as this is the duty of the various officers.
The summary begins by describing the onset of Winter in March 1903. Details of the food supply are given, as well as other aspects of everyday life. Scott describes numerous sledge journies and the work being undertaken by scientists on the expedition. Also outlined are the efforts on behalf of the crew and the relief ships to free the 'Discovery' from the sea ice which has rendered it stationary. After the ship is freed, Scott describes a number of journeys around islands and records the positions of the ship as they journey north. |
