TitleExpedition report from Captain Robert Falcon Scott to the Secretary, National Antarctic Expedition
Date26 February 1903
DescriptionSent from the 'Discovery' Winter Quarters and marked Report No. 6.
Scott received the President's letter of 4 July 1902. He notes that, contrary to expectations, communication remains difficult. He appends reports on the following:
1. Description of the ship's position
2. Brief summary of proceedings
3. List of men discharged to Morning
4. List of men remaining on ships
5. List of stores required next year
Scott notes that Ernest Shackleton is returning to England and will explain the unsatisfactory stores situation. Discusses the arrangements regarding scientific collections.
Scott has done his best to reduce the wages bill, but considers two officers [Hodgson and Dr. Wilson] greatly underpaid. Discusses arrival of the 'Morning' within ten miles of the 'Discovery' on 23 January and Captain Colbeck's reports regarding the extraordinary packed ice in their vicinity. Praises work of Captain Colbeck and his officers. It is impossible with the time available to forward scientific collections and notes by the 'Morning'.
