TitleLetter from Robert Falcon Scott, H.M.S. Bulwark, Channel Fleet, to Sir Archibald Geikie, Secretary Royal Society
Date10 October 1908
DescriptionPresumably attached letter to MS/591/14/4.

Details specific errors in preface of the Meteorological Volume produced from the results of the Discovery Expedition. Scott remarks that the proofs of the publication were not seen by him or any other member of the Expedition before publication., even though the preface might suggest otherwise. Dr. Shaw, who authored the preface, is criticized for accusations implying members of the Expedition were less than competent in their use of instruments, or that the instruments themselves were faulty. Mr. Dines, who also submitted a paper to the Volume, is also criticized. Scott asks that the matter be officially investigated, erroneous statements be publicly withdrawn, and that an explanation be provided for why members of the Expedition were not shown results before they were made public.
