Title | Letter from J T [James Thomson] Bottomley, 13 University Gardens, Glasgow, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Bottomley; James Thomson (1845-1926); Irish physicist |
Date | 2 March 1909 |
Description | He sends a letter received from S.P. Thompson, approving of the course of action they spoke of when meeting at the Athenaeum ten days ago. All letters will now be sent to Larmor, mostly from other people to Lord Kelvin. They have asked Bottomley's cousin, James Thomson, for Kelvin's letters to his father, and he will either have copies made, or send the originals for copying afterwards. They have done something to arrange the letters they have, but not much is to be gained by that if these go to Larmor and S.P. Thompson, but he asks what Larmor thinks. He encloses a list [not present] by Kelvin's secretary Mr. Green, of papers not yet reprinted. Would Larmor make these into a fourth volume? Lady Kelvin would like to undertake a fourth volume on the same plan as that adopted by Kelvin for the previous ones. Bottomley would still like to get an idea of the cost and will write to the Cambridge University Press accordingly. He asks Larmor how many copies should be printed, thinking that there were 1500 of volume 3 at £300 to £400. |
