Title | Letter from J T [James Thomson] Bottomley, 13 University Gardens, Glasgow, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Bottomley; James Thomson (1845-1926); Irish physicist |
Date | 12 January 1910 |
Description | Thanking Larmor for his letter of 8 January and stating that he is glad that Larmor is reaching the end of his labours with the Collected Papers. It will be a much larger affair than Bottomley had imagined, two volumes at 500 pages. Lord Kelvin thought highly of George Green, who has been of assistance. Green's mathematical skills improved greatly while he was with Kelvin, more than Kelvin's other secretaries. He asks what Green's remuneration should be, to communicate to Lady Kelvin, and if there are others to consider, perhaps with some other form of recognition. He asks what arrangement should be made for Larmor, a matter which he has raised in letters, but has received no reply. He appreciates it has been a labour of love, but Lady Kelvin would like him to look at the time from a purely business point of view. Lady Kelvin's health has shown improvement: she is at Largs but will be in London soon. |
