TitleLetter from J [John] Brown, Longhurst, Dunmurry, Belfast, to [Joseph] Larmor
CreatorBrown; John (1850-1911); British manufacturer
Date15 January 1903
DescriptionBrown thanks Larmor for the hints and he would like to do the suggested experiments. The parchment paper experiment would be easy and he intends to do that first, querying whether Schoenbein's parchment paper is commercially available or whether he must make it. He notes difficulties with the contact experiment, but makes suggestions and wants to see the papers by Buff referred to in Arrhenius, with references, in which he says Faraday was wrong. He supposes the Royal Society would not lend out such things. Larmor will have been pleased to see confirmation of the Rowland effect by R.W. Wood. Fitzgerald has recovered from the strain of his British Association work. He asks if the Royal Society or St. John's is a better adddress for Larmor.
