| Description | He has received a letter from the Sudan Government in Khartoum letting him know they have a steamer for £5 per day between Gondokoro and Khartoum and that the 30 stations proposed will mean 42 days of the steamer's time. Beattie would have to provide his own servants and food. This will cost around £300 and he does not feel justified in spending all of the money allocated by the Grant Committee in this way. He has written to Sudan to point out the costs if they had commissioned the research, noting the £570 he has available from the Royal Society and the Carnegie Institute. He asks if Larmor might put the matter to the Sudan Government to be 'a little less grasping'. |
