Title | Letter from J T [James Thomson] Bottomley, 13 University Gardens, Glasgow, to [Joseph] Larmor |
Creator | Bottomley; James Thomson (1845-1926); Irish physicist |
Date | 12 February 1908 |
Description | He is sorry to have left Larmor's kind letter unanswered. He is glad that Larmor will undertake the Royal Society Notice of Lord Kelvin and he should let Bottomley know how he may help. He asks if Larmor would like him to ask Lady Kelvin for photographs, noting that it would be necessary to ask the photographer for permission to reproduce a portrait. He understands that Larmor and his friends think that it would be best to let the Memoir by S.P. Thompson appear before an authorised biography, and that Larmor would look over any letters that might be found, to see what could be made of them. Some collections of papers have been put away and Lady Kelvin thinks there are important letters among them. Bottomley has not seen them yet, but will in due course. He had a letter that morning from Cambridge University Press about a new volume of collected papers. He thinks it will contain material on hydrodynamics and he will discuss this with Lady Kelvin. She is making steady but slow progress. |
