TitleLetter from S[tephen] P[eter] Rigaud, Oxford, to Francis Baily
Date29 December 1837
DescriptionDid not wish to make any delays, so he requested one of the librarians to go with him into the Bodleian library [he writes on a Saturday]. Found what he suspected to be partly true, but that Panizzi had quoted a wrong volume, for which he was not prepared. Has written about this in a separate paper because alterations had ocurred to him. Explains how he believes Panizzi made a mistake in the spelling of a book title and asks Baily to look into it. Adds that friends of his used to speak highly of Panizzi, and so he had been prejudiced in his favour, but his opinion had been shaken after examining Panizzi's remarks and he had decided to express himself with more caution in regards to Panizzi. Adds alterations he intends to make to the paper.
