TitleLetter from [Charles Richardson] Banks and [Charles] Barry, 1 Westminster Chambers, Victoria Street, Westminster, to [Walter White] the assistant secretary of the Royal Society, Burlington House, New Buildings
Date2 June 1868
DescriptionComplain that despite their wishes to accommodate the Council of the Royal Academy, the Council still has not provided accommodation for the Royal Society's weekly meetings and its books. Suggest that they construct a temporary room to meet everyone's requirements, in the vacant space adjoining the west side of Burlington House, the area which shall be at least equal to that of the present lower library, or meeting room. This room would have direct internal communication with the lobby which conducts to the present room and would be equally available to all the societies occupying Burlington House. Inform that if their suggestion is approved at the Council meeting on 3 June, they will then endeavor to obtain the assent of the Royal Academy to such temporary use of the ground leased to them, and the sanction of the First Commissioner. Enclose parallel places showing the size and position of the present room and of the room suggested to later take its place for a time [not present].
