Description- Brown card folder:
Annotation in ink on front reads: 'Hawkhurst Church. One of the oldest Photographs on Paper, on a large scale 1853 by JC Stewart (my uncle) and Mons Regnault' (Refers to MS/784/23)

Two further notes in different hands read: 'With a later photograph (over 34 years later) 1888 of same view, from the same spot…'
'and a later one in 1916, shewing one acorn bearing strong branch, 63 years later' (Refer to MS/784/24 and MS/784/25)

- White card folder:
Pencil annotation reads: 'Hawkhurst by Regnault 1853' (3 pictures)

- Pencil note on paper reads that six photographs (MS784/18-23) 'are by Regnault and John C Stewart during joint tour in England in 1853 during part of which Miss Graham & Miss Herschel accompanied them'. Other notes refer to the photographs of the oak tree.

- Three sheets of paper with the following annotations:
'These 2 photos are by JC Stewart about 1853 or ante' (Refers to MS/784/1 and MS/784/2)
'The 6 photographs (all Pyrenees) enclosed in this sheet were given to Sir JH by John C Stewart about 1853. They are not by JS' (Refers to MS/784/10-16)
'The 9 photographs in this sheet are by Regnault (of Sevres) given by him to Sir JH taken between 1848 & 1852 acc to JC Stewart, my uncle, who told me so. R & my uncle, JCS, were intimate friends & fellow photographers & both visited Sir JH at Collingswood in 1853'
(Refers possibly to MS/784/1-9)

- Two sheets of blotting paper:
1 sheet referring to MS/784/1 and MS/784/2 (the farm scenes) 'they bear R's autograph to 'Mr Herschel'
2nd sheet referring to MS/784/8 and MS/784/9 (still life) 'They are fine specimens of photography as can be produced even now (1906) - in perfect preservation'

- Orange card:
Annotation in ink reads: '1 photo of Old Oak Hkt, 1 map of old oak, 1 The moor Hkt'. All refer to Hawkhurst
