| Description | Sent Brady a copy of the Annual Report of the Manchester Microscopical Society, which contains his paper on the foraminifera of Jersey. Would have sent the report before but was not aware Brady was in England, as he knew it was Brady's custom to leave 'this dreary climate' during the winter on account of his health. Had plans of going to Egypt in the past winter but his brother got married in December so he was not able to leave home until the end of January, when it was already too late for Egypt, so he went to Italy instead, returning in the May with his health improved. Regrets now even more not going to Egypt as they would have probably met there, 'for though the country is a large one the path which travellers follow is very circumscribed'. Is afraid Brady will be disappointed in his paper and asks him to excuse any errors, remembering Halkyard is only a beginner in the study in which Brady had done so much, and that he cannot do too much work on account of his health. One of the reasons he wrote the paper was because at the time he was the only member of the Manchester Society interested in foraminifera. However now they have been joined by 'Mr Piercey (or Pearcey)', from Owen's College, Manchester, who had been connected with the Challenger Expedition and took a great interest in foraminifera. Asks Brady to tell Alan Sherborne that Halkyard will send him a copy of his paper as soon as the reprints to which he is entitled reach him. |
