TitleLetter from Henry Finch, Albury [near Guildford in Surrey] to [Martin Folkes?]
Date18 October 1742
DescriptionHe received his correspondent's letter yesterday, with the news that Finch would be proposed as a candidate for election at the next meeting of the Royal Society. He is sensible of the honour and promises to contribute to the purposes of the Society and discharge his payments. If a bond is required, he has asked Mr Bathurst, a bookseller in Fleet Street, to engage on his behalf. He intends to be in London before Christmas and would have satisfaction if he can be there 'within the Time desired by the very courteous & worthy President'. He will very gladly accept the present of Captain Norden’s book, and asks that it is directed to him, to be sent by the Guildford Coach at the Talbot Inn in the Strand on any Tuesday or Friday.
